Police investigating fatal shooting in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday morning in Colorado Springs.

Officers responded to the area shortly before 2:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of South Academy Boulevard – between Sierra Sun Drive and Astrozon Boulevard – in regards to a possible shooting.

At the scene, police said they found a man who appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injury.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Gary Thomas of Colorado Springs.

His death has been ruled a homicide. CSPD is investigating.

This is the 13th homicide of 2016. At this time last year, there were 11 homicides in Colorado Springs.
