Suspects in Kansas Amber Alert may be headed to Royal Gorge

CAÑON CITY, Colo. — Two people accused of kidnapping a child in Arkansas may be headed to the Royal Gorge area with the girl, according to authorities.

An AMBER Alert for 3-year-old Layla Munholland has been issued in Kansas, Kentucky, and Arkansas. Authorities said Layla was abducted from her home in Van Buren, Arkansas around 1:30 a.m. Friday. She was taken by her non-custodial mother, 24-year-old Chelsea Munholland, and Munholland’s boyfriend, 31-year-old Herbert Allen Thomas, according to authorities.

Munholland is currently awaiting prison time on narcotics and theft charges. Authorities said both suspects are “known to be heavy drug users.”

Debit card activity indicates the suspects were in Claremore, Oklahoma, at 7 a.m. Friday. They were last tracked to Westville, Oklahoma. Information obtained from a hotel indicates they may be headed to the Royal Gorge area.

The victim is described as a 2-year-old white girl with blonde hair and blue/green eyes. She is about 3 feet tall and 33 pounds. She was last seen wearing a dark pink pajama top and light pink pajama bottoms with hearts and green frogs.

Munholland is described as a white woman, about 5 feet 4 inches tall, with long black hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue hoodie with a white stripe across the front and black shorts.

Thomas is described as a white man, about 6 feet 3 inches tall and 200 pounds, with hazel eyes.

The suspects are driving a gray 2006 Toyota Corolla with a sunroof. It has Arkansas license plate number 245 USV.
