Unincorporated Fremont County enacts Stage I fire restrictions

FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. — Fremont County has enacted stage one fire restrictions due to hot and dry weather conditions.

The ban applies to unincorporated areas of the county. During a stage one ban, the following activities are prohibited:

  • Agricultural burning.
  • Using a fire, coal or wood burning stove, or fireplace in an undeveloped area. Exceptions:
    • Use of a coal or wood burning stove or fireplace in a private residence is allowed if the flue pipe, chimney, or other exhaust structure is equipped with a spark arrestor such as a chimney cap.
    • Campfires contained in permanent fire pits or fire grates within a developed recreation area are allowed.
    • Grills using propane and other bottled fuels are allowed in areas free of flammable vegetation and other flammable materials.
  • Burning of trash.
  • Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, building, or outdoor smoking area that is cleared of all flammable vegetation and material.
  • Outdoor welding, grinding or use of any type of torch in any area which presents the possibility of igniting vegetation or other combustible material.
  • Operating any outdoor equipment or machinery in an undeveloped area with an internal combustion engine without a spark arresting device.
  • Sale, use and possession of fireworks.
