Police find homemade explosives, arrest three for burglary in Florence

FLORENCE, Colo. — Police arrested three people for burglarizing a home and possessing homemade explosives in Florence.

Fremont County deputies responded to a call on Monday reporting a residential burglary in progress at a home located in the 1600 block of West 3rd Street.

According to police, the reporting person said there was a truck and trailer backed up to a vacant house and that people were taking things.

At the scene, deputies found multiple people inside the home that did not belong there. Additionally, numerous homemade explosive devices were discovered.

The home was evacuated and the following three suspects were taken into custody and are being held at Fremont County Jail:

Daniel Winn, 34, is being charged with possession of an explosive device, first degree burglary, theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, and prohibited use of a weapon. He has a cash only warrant out of Fremont Police Department. His bond is set at $50,000.

Kristine Fernandez, 29, is being charged with false reporting, possession of a controlled substance, and a failure to appear warrant. Her bond is set at $1,000.

Kenneth Polston, 39, is being held for a failure to appear warrant. His bond is set at $1,000.

The Pueblo Metro Bomb Squad responded to the scene and took possession of the homemade explosive devices that were deemed to be empty.

Police said more homemade explosive devices were found inside the home on Tuesday and Pueblo Metro Bomb Squad found the devices to be functional. The explosives were confiscated for proper disposal.

The investigation is ongoing.
