BERKELEY, Calif. — UC Berkeley sophomore Tarishi Jain, 19, is confirmed to be among the 20 people killed during Friday’s terrorist attack at a restaurant in Bangladesh’s capital, according to UC Berkeley’s Communications and Public Affairs department.

Jain was an Indian national and had started interning in early June at Eastern Bank Limited in Dhaka with UC Berkeley’s Subir and Malini Chowdhury Center for Bangladesh Studies.

According to Berkeley News, Jain’s father, Sanjeev Jain, is a textile merchant based in Dhaka. He was among family members and friends outside Holey Artisan Bakery who awaited news regarding loved ones during the 11-hour hostage standoff that began Friday night.

Jain came to UC Berkeley in 2015 after graduating from the American International School in Dhaka; she planned to major in economics.

A memorial vigil is being planned for Jain on campus.
