Police investigating downtown Colorado Springs crash involving stolen car

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police are investigating after a stolen Camaro rear-ended an SUV in downtown Colorado Springs Monday morning.

It happened around 5:35 a.m. just south of the intersection of Platte Avenue and Wahsatch Avenue. Police said a teen stole the Camaro from an address on Glenwood Circle, about five miles away, around 5:25 a.m. The car was headed south on Wahsatch when it rear-ended a Ford Explorer.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police said both vehicles spun out of control during the crash and were severely damaged. A light pole was also damaged.

Police said the teen driver was going “well above the posted speed limit” of 35 miles per hour. Police also suspect the driver had been drinking. Charges against the driver are pending.
