“Home invasion” call leads officers to hash lab workshop

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police responded to a home invasion on Friday and during the investigation they discovered a hash lab in the garage of the residence.

Officers responded to the 911 call around 9:22 a.m. on Friday at the residence located in the area of Swope Avenue and East Platte Avenue. At the scene, they found a man walking in the area carrying a loaded shotgun. Officers were able to detain the man without force.

During the investigation, officers determined that the man was under the influence of an unknown substance and had called 911 as a result of his paranoia. Police searched the property and discovered a butane hash oil lab in a workshop attached to a multi-car garage. Because of the unknown equipment used to extract THC, officers requested assistance from the CSFD and officers from the Metro Vice, Narcotics and Intelligence Division (MVNI).

MVNI detectives discovered that the property tenants had been experimenting with extracting CBD oil from hemp plants. Samples from both hemp plants and extracted oil were taken for testing purposes.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
