Victim identified in fatal crash in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police have identified the victim in Wednesday night’s crash as Joshua Roberts, 32.

The driver of the car involved in the fatal collision was arrested at a local hospital after he fled the scene. As of Friday afternoon, police said he is continuing treatment for his injuries.

On Wednesday, June 15, local police responded to a call regarding a one-car traffic accident in the area of North Chelton Road and Austin Lane around 10:53 p.m. At the scene, they found a deceased man and two others who had been injured. They were transported to a local hospital.

According to authorities, a Subaru Impreza was traveling at a high speed southbound on Chelton Road when the driver lost control. The Impreza slid off the side of the road, striking a large tree at the intersection near Highland Drive. As it rotated away from the tree, the unrestrained right-rear seat passenger was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene. The other two passengers suffered serious injuries during the crash.

The driver, identified as Christopher Roseboom, 45, fled the scene on foot but was located several hours later near his home a few blocks away. He suffered serious injuries during the crash and was transported to a local hospital.

Roseboom was arrested at the hospital for vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, hit and run, and DUI among other traffic charges. As of Friday afternoon, police said he is still being treated for injuries at the hospital.

Roads in the area reopened around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing.
