COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Wednesday was the 10-day countdown to the 2nd Annual Climb for Courage Stair Climb Race. The race supports Children’s Colorado Hospital.

The Climb for Courage event takes place at Falcon Stadium at the Air Force Academy on Saturday, June 25 and the proceeds will help support a new 170,000 square-foot Children’s Colorado Hospital that is planned in Colorado Springs.

On Wednesday, city officials and some of the kids from Children’s Hospital Colorado did a practice run at City Hall. One small special guest by the name of Jackson Ziwak made an appearance.

Jackson, 11, is the inspiration for the Climb for Courage event.

“He’s undergone numerous therapies including physical, occupational, speech therapy,” said Tina Ziwak, Jackson’s mom.

A children’s hospital in Colorado Springs will mean not having to travel to Denver or out of the state.

“It’s a time to stand up and step up for children and families in Southern Colorado who deserve exceptional care specific to the needs of their children,” said Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers.

Suthers said the hospital specific to childrens’ needs will be a benefit we will notice in more ways than one.

“Highly qualified staff of outstanding doctors, outstanding nurses, healthcare professionals, this is going to be a $120 million project with lots of construction jobs,” said Suthers.
