Bicyclist cited after causing traffic accident in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Two individuals – one on a bicycle and another in a vehicle – were involved in a collision in Colorado Springs on Sunday morning.

Police responded to the accident at the intersection of Monterey Road and Delta Drive around 12:48 a.m. on Sunday. When they arrived on scene, they discovered that the bicyclist was trapped under the vehicle. CSFD personnel responded and were able to remove the bicyclist from under the vehicle. She was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

No one in the vehicle was injured.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Monterey Road coming to a complete stop for the posted stop sign at the intersection. The bicyclist was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of Monterey Road and failed to stop at the same intersection, police said.

According to authorities, the vehicle turned northbound on Delta Drive and struck the bicyclist as the bicyclist continued eastbound through the intersection. The bicycle was not equipped with a front lamp.

Officers determined that the bicyclist was at fault for the traffic accident and was cited.

Alcohol was not a factor in this traffic accident.
