Disabled pets gather for rally in downtown Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The fifth annual disabled pet rally took place Sunday afternoon at the Colorado Springs City Auditorium.

The event was hosted by Nakio’s Underdog Rescue. Dozens of disabled pets, including Nakio, the first dog in the world to have four prosthetic legs, came out to show just how much they’re still able to do.

“The main thing that they show us is no matter what adversity is thrown in front of them, they don’t even seem to really blink,” Nakio’s owner Weston Pace said. “They’re always smiling. They’re always happy. They’re always having a good time. They can overcome any challenge with a smile on their face, and they never even stop or hesitate, so that’s certainly a good lesson to learn.”

Some of the pets at Sunday’s event were up for adoption. Event organizers said animals with disabilities come in all shapes and sizes, but they all live happy normal lives, and just like other pets, they need a loving home and family.
