Plant a tree, help revegetate area destroyed by Waldo Canyon Fire

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. — Do you enjoy hiking, planting or helping the community?

A tree planting service project for the Waldo Canyon Fire will take place this Saturday, May 21 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Cave of the Winds in Manitou Springs.

Hosted by the El Paso County Bar Association, the event aims to help rehabilitate the burn area by getting the community together to plant over 1,000 native trees to revegetate and stabilize hillsides. Revegetation helps the environment and ultimately protects against erosion, mudslides and flooding – all of which pose a major threat to homes and individuals living near the burn area.

The event is free to the public and open to anyone over age 12. Volunteers must sign waivers and register at the project page prior to the event. You must arrive no later than 8 a.m. for check-in.

Project participants will meet at the Cave of the Winds (located at 100 Cave of the Winds Road) then hike into the hills to plant the trees.

Anyone who participates in this project will receive free tickets to the Cave of the Winds.
