Manitou Springs prepares for spring flooding season

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. — With wet weather in the forecast for most of this week, people in Manitou Springs are keeping flooding preps in the back of their mind.

So far, it’s been a pretty mild spring in terms of rain in the area, but flood recovery officials say this time of year, from March until about September, people should be thinking about what to do if those heavy rains won’t let up.

“It’s always in the back of our minds that we have to keep our community safe and watch the floodways, make sure that there’s no debris buildup and logs in the creek or anything like that could cause anything to back up and flood the streets of Manitou,” flood recovery construction observer Isaac Brisk said.

If a storm hits, life is more important that property. Brisk said you should listen for the flood sirens, and if you hear them, head to higher ground.
