Purple Heart Truck Run makes stop at Fort Carson

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A purple Ford F-150 that has been specially adapted for a wounded warrior was parked in front of the post exchange on Fort Carson Tuesday.

The truck is part of the 2016 Purple Heart Truck Run “Mobility is Freedom” campaign. It’s touring the nation to raise awareness of Purple Heart veterans. They’re also raising money to help give these wounded soldiers their freedom back, with modified trucks to suit their needs.

“There is no price you can put on the feeling that it gives you to be able to go out on your own and be 100 percent independent again,” Marine Tylar Huffman said. “Makes a big difference.”

This truck will visit 48 cities and 20 states before heading back to Washington D.C., where the keys will be handed over to a Marine at the Iwo Jima Memorial on May 29.
