Four apartments destroyed in fire at Colorado Springs apartment complex

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Several families were displaced by a fire in a northeastern Colorado Springs apartment complex Saturday night.

Firefighters responded to the Canyon Ranch apartments on Parkmoor Village Drive, which is just off North Academy Boulevard east of Palmer Park, around 11 p.m. Saturday. The fire fully engulfed four apartments, and a total of 24 units were affected.

It took crews about 45 minutes to put the fire out. Luckily, they were able to get everyone out safely, with the help of other apartment residents.

“Tonight’s fire was a large body of fire,” Colorado Springs Fire Department Capt. Steven Oswald said. “To be able to announce that there is very minor injuries and no fatalities is a success to that point that the citizens were helping, alerting other neighbors and getting everyone out of their apartments.”

Two people sustained minor injuries and were treated on the scene.

The American Red Cross said 15 to 30 people are now without a home. They set up a shelter at The Awakening Church to care for them Saturday night.
