Southern Colorado Honor Flight veterans welcomed home from Washington D.C.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Saturday night, some of Colorado’s World War II and Korean War veterans received a homecoming like never before.

The group was part of the Honor Flight of Southern Colorado. They were returning from a trip to Washington D.C., where they were able to see their war memorials.

“I was amazed,” veteran JJ Inman said. “I never seen anything like that.”

“During World War II the veterans were dropped off at their base, dropped off at their duty station, sometimes just dropped off the boat and told to get a ride home, so the welcome home is not like we do nowadays for our veterans,” event organizer Dawn Dickerson Wade said. “So this welcome home means everything to them, because they never received it.”

Honor Flight is a local nonprofit that provides the trip to veterans at no cost.
