PUEBLO, Colo. — Bystanders apprehended a man who stole a purse from a woman at King Soopers Wednesday, according to police.

The theft happened around 12:30 p.m. at the King Soopers on West Northern Avenue. The suspect, 19-year-old Moises Andrew Gomez, pushed a woman from behind and stole her purse in the store’s parking lot, according to police. The woman, 66, fell on her face and broke several teeth.

Several bystanders chased Gomez down and held him in a nearby restaurant parking lot until police arrived and arrested him.

“We would never ask anyone to put themselves in harm’s way but these citizens are to be commended for their actions,” police said in a statement.

Gomez was arrested for robbery and second-degree assault. The purse was recovered and returned to the victim.
