Renowned mixed martial arts gym opens in Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. — A training facility known for its UFC athletes like Holly Holm and Jon Jones is now offering its classes to the people of Pueblo.

Jackson’s MMA, a distinguished training facility known for coaching the world’s top mixed martial arts professionals, is now training the youth in Pueblo.

“Jackson’s of Albuquerque is one of the most renowned names for mixed martial arts across the world so to have this in Pueblo, Colorado is a true honor,” said Jason Casados, the gym owner.

“I think it will be huge for Pueblo, huge for Colorado itself,” said Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, the number two lightweight fighter in the world. “Really the big gyms are up in Colorado Springs and Denver. Pueblo didn’t really have anything so it’s giving the guys here a chance to have something to work for.”

The gym offers MMA fighting and Jiu Jitsu training, two very different styles of workouts all geared towards building discipline, character, values, and of course, self-defense. But trainers say there’s more to be gained.

“You get the benefits of self confidence and you get in shape and you make new friends,” said Sidney Silva, a Jiu Jitsu black belt. “After awhile in the gym, you have a new family.”

Whether you’re looking for a new workout or wanting to become the next MMA star, the gym is open to all levels of experience.

“You don’t have to be a pro, you don’t have to be fighter, you don’t ever have to step into an octagon,” said Casados.

So far the Pueblo community seems to be embracing the idea.

“The reactions, the messages, the text messages, emails have just been overwhelming,” said Casados. “It’s been awesome, so many people are excited to have this in our hometown of Pueblo, Colorado.”
