Tiny house coffee shop moves to permanent location in downtown Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Story Coffee Company is now parked in a permanent location in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs.

The tiny house coffee shop originally opened in November, and was located next to the ice rink at Acacia Park. Now, the shop will stay next to the historic band shell off Bijou Street.

While several businesses can see challenges in the downtown area with the homeless population and parking, the demand for space downtown remains high.

“Anytime there’s change, you can be afraid of if and live in fear of the things that may be less desirable, or you can perceive that as an opportunity,” Story Coffee Company co-owner Don Niemyer said.

“Every place has its positives and negatives,” Sarah Harris, director of business development and economic vitality for Downtown Colorado Springs, said. “We really are seeing that there’s more demand downtown now than there probably has been in a number of years.”

Story Coffee Company will hold its grand opening this Friday.
