Little patients receive golden surprise at Memorial Hospital

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Some little patients at Memorial Hospital received a big surprise visit from Olympic swimmers.

The kids got to play board games, paint, and even hold one of their gold medals.

Also, toward the end, the swimmers handed out some medals and superhero capes to the kids.

The athletes were thrilled to be able to spend time with the kiddos.

“You would never expect to put a smile on someone’s face like that just by doing something that you do every day, and that is really humbling every day,” Tyler Clary, gold medalist in 2012, said.

“It really lets us take a step back and appreciate the life that we’ve had and they’ve had it way rougher than us. Being able to walk into a room and light someone’s face up like that, is one of the best feelings in the world,” Elizabeth Beisel, silver and bronze medalist, said.
