COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding a sexual assault suspect who crashed into a patrol car while eluding deputies Friday morning.

The sheriff’s office said it happened around 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot of a lawyer’s office on Cascade Avenue downtown. Deputies were scheduled to meet with 46-year-old Lorenzo Brooks and his attorney to serve a warrant for sexual assault and failure to appear. As deputies approached the car, Brooks refused to get out. Deputies talked to him through an open window, and during the conversation, he said “I am going to die today,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Brooks then put his car in reverse and hit the passenger side of the deputies’ vehicle. He then put the car in drive and hit a civilian car before leaving the lot.

Deputies said Brooks abandoned his car, a gold Chevy Impala, in a parking lot on Southgate Road.

Brooks is described as a black man, about 6 feet 1 inches tall and 205 pounds. He’s bald and has a thin build.

In addition to the original warrant, Brooks is now wanted for felony eluding, criminal mischief, and hit and run.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Sergeant Tammy Gugliotta at 719-520-7158 or 719-390-5555.
