Two accused of stealing vehicle from man delivering newspapers in central Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Two people are accused of stealing a vehicle from a man who was delivering newspapers in central Colorado Springs early Saturday morning.

Police said it happened around 3:20 a.m. The victim told police he was delivering newspapers in the 300-block of Cragmor Road, and left his vehicle unlocked and running while he delivered the papers inside an apartment building. When he came back, he saw his vehicle driving away.

Police found the vehicle occupied by two men about a quarter mile away, in the 4100-block of High Country Road. When the suspects saw officers, they ran into a storage area. Police set up containment and called in a K9. While they waited for the K9, officers caught one of the suspects, 19-year-old Carols Sanchez, as he was leaving a mobile home park next to the storage area.

K9 Broc found the other suspect, 18-year-old David Caballero. Police said Caballero was inside the fenced area of a business, hiding underneath some wooden pallets.

Both suspects are charged with motor vehicle theft, theft, and conspiracy.
