National group assembles bikes for military kids and families

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — More than 350 employees from the medical technology company Boston Scientific spent Tuesday evening building roughly 80 bikes for military kids here in Colorado Springs.

The purpose of building the bikes is to raise the spirits of local children whose parents or family members were deployed during the holidays. Tuesday’s gathering at The Broadmoor was for all the volunteers making this unique opportunity possible.

The event included 40 tables where groups of six to seven volunteers built two bikes, one for a boy and one for a girl, all consisting of different sizes.

There were also brain teasers, games and overall fun for everyone.

“It’s a charity event, but just like most people you look at, if you give back for the military for everything they do for us, it’s the least we could do as a company with Boston Scientific,” said Mike Jones, the Vice President of Sales with Boston Scientific. “I can tell you that the team is excited to be able to do this.”

All the bikes built Tuesday will be presented to more than 30 military families this Thursday at The Broadmoor.
