Man stabbed while trying to help stranded motorist in Fremont County

COTOPAXI, Colo. — A man sustained life-threatening injuries when he was attacked while trying to help a stranded motorist in Cotopaxi Monday evening.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said it happened around 7:30 p.m. in the area of Highway 50 and Fremont County Road 1A. The victim told deputies he was trying to help someone who was broken down on County Road 1A when he was attacked and stabbed several times.

The victim ran toward the Cotopaxi Store, where he flagged down a passerby to help. The suspects then got into the victim’s vehicle, chased him down, and crashed into the passerby’s vehicle. The suspects left the scene in the victim’s vehicle.

The victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Deputies found the victim’s vehicle nearby, but did not find the suspects.

Deputies have identified two people of interest in the case. They are Courtney Plante, 19, and Sean Overstreet, 37. Deputies said both could still be in the Cotopaxi area.
