Wanted person found in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — On Dec. 24 the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified by the department of corrections that a wanted person identified as Michael Shannon was in the Colorado Springs area.

According to police, he had one active felony warrant and one misdemeanor warrant. Officers from the specialized enforcement division, that included tactical and motor officers, assisted with locating the suspect.

Officers were able to locate Shannon as he was trying to enter an apartment complex on South Union Boulevard. Shannon then ran from the police into the neighborhood east of that location.

Officers immediately set up containment and a police K-9 was requested. Officer Radke and his K-9 Ozzie began tracking the suspect from the last known location that was easily identified by Shannon dropping his cell phone. Ozzie, along with tactical officers, went through several yards and over several fences tracking Shannon.

He was found hiding in a heavy overgrown area and taken into custody after being contacted by Ozzie.

Shannon was taken to a local hospital for medical attention and will be taken to the criminal justice center.
