Two men killed in Franktown crash

Two men from the Colorado Springs area were killed in a car crash south of Franktown Monday night.

The Colorado State Patrol said a car driven by 70 year old Stephen Edwards of Peyton was northbound on Highway 83 when it crossed the center line around 5:27 Monday evening about six miles south of Franktown. The left front of Edwards’ car struck the left front of a Chevy Tahoe headed south on Highway 83. Edwards and the driver of the SUV, 47 year old Jeffrey Lobato of Colorado Springs, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Three passengers in the SUV were transported to area hospitals, according to CSP. Christine Lobato, 47, and 18 year old Jaylin Lobato were taken by ambulance to a Parker hospital, while a 15 year old boy was flown to a Denver hospital, all three in serious condition.

At this time, CSP is looking at Edwards’ speed as a factor, and do not believe alcohol was involved.
