A Penrose man was arrested after leading police on a pursuit and firing shots at them, two days in a row.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office stated Canon City police initially tried to pull over the suspect, later identified as Devlin Palaza of Penrose, late Sunday night. Palaza eluded police in the area of Raynolds and Highway 50 on the east side of town, and when Fremont County deputies responded to assist, Palaza took off. Fremont County deputies pursued the 43 year old Palaza westbound on Highway 50. The sheriff’s office indicated he fired shots at deputies while the pursuit went north on Highway 9, and deputies lost the suspect vehicle in Teller County.

On Monday, Fremont County detectives spotted a car on Highway 115 that matched the description of the car Palaza was driving Sunday night. The driver eluded law enforcement coming into Penrose, and the driver again began firing shots at detectives, according to the sheriff’s office. After a pursuit into Penrose, the car stopped in the 600 block of Q Street, where the driver attempted to run away. The sheriff’s office states that deputies caught up Palaza a short distance away from the vehicle.

Deputies never fired their weapons, the sheriff’s office said, and no one was injured in either incident.

Palaza was taken into custody on various charges and outstanding warrants.
