Denver man sentenced for producing child porn

DENVER — A Denver man has been sentenced to more than 24 years in prison for producing child pornography.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Denver said Mihn Thong, 32, was sentenced Tuesday to 292 months in federal prison, followed by 15 years on supervised release. Thong pled guilty on August 14 to production of child pornography.

According to court records, Thong used video chat websites to produce the pornographic videos. Investigators said Thong used a program to play video of a girl so that the person on the other end of the chat thought they were chatting with another minor. Thong used the video, which showed a girl undressing and fondling herself, to convince the people on the other end of the chats to take their clothes off and/or masturbate. He then recorded the chats and saved the files.

Prosecutors said at least 100 victims between the ages of 12 and 16 were depicted in the videos. There’s no evidence that Thong shared them with other people.

Court records say Thong also obtained child porn from others using peer-to-peer file sharing software, and saved it on his computer.

The illegal activity was discovered by a Homeland Security Investigations agent working undercover in Seattle. The agent used a peer-to-peer file sharing program to download child porn from a specific person using a specific username at a unique IP address. Further investigation traced the IP address to Thong in Denver.
