COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. —  FOX21 and the Colorado Springs Independent are teaming up once again for this year’s GIVE! campaign which highlights local organizations that need your help.

Mission Medical Center, a free healthcare clinic for the uninsured, under-insured, or low income, has been changing lives since 2004.

“One woman who came in, she was a young woman, she gave no eye contact, she wasn’t smiling and I was just like, ‘Oh my goodness’,”said Barb Cronin, executive director at Mission Medical Center.

The center offers free services to those in the Pikes Peak Region who can’t afford to see a doctor or get other medical help.

“Well when that woman came out of the exam room, she was all smiles,” Cronin said. “We changed her life. We gave her self-esteem, built her confidence because we gave her a smile.”

Services offered include primary care, behavioral health, dental, vision including free glasses and free durable medical equipment.

“An individual who is earning less than $29,000 a year could qualify for services here and a family of four earning less than $60,000 would be eligible for services,” Cronin said.

To provide free care, Mission Medical Center uses volunteers. All of their doctors and staff work from the kindness of their hearts.

“I’m retired from the Army and I still want to take care of people,” said Kristine Bristow, family nurse practitioner. “I have this skill, I have the knowledge and I want to keep taking care of people.”

Mission Medical receives no federal funding and relies solely on donations to keep their doors open.

“Between the wonderful, wonderful support that we get from our donors and then the wonderful volunteers, we wouldn’t exist,” Cronin said.

In addition to donations, Mission Medical is always looking for more volunteers.
