PUEBLO, Colo. — The CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves, who are the defending Division II National Champions, are getting ready for the first round of the playoffs. The team will be going up against the University of Indianapolis this Saturday at noon at the Neta and Eddie Derose ThunderBowl.

The ThunderWolves are heading into the post season and Head Coach John Wristen is calling this the most important time of the year.

“You’ve worked, every weight you’ve lifted, you’ve sprinted as many sprints as you’ve done, to have this moment,” Wristen said.

CSU Pueblo has never played a first round playoff game. Usually, they have a bye week, but the players are ready to prove they can win with or without time off.

“We are a great team whether we have a bye week or not, I think that is kind what proves this win after this weekend,” Zach Boyd, tight end, said.

The team calls the playoffs a new season and are hoping to bring home another championship trophy to Pueblo.

“The experience we have coming back of guys that were in the playoffs last year, it’s going to help us a lot just from the situations last year, we know how to handle ourselves,” Morgan Fox, defensive end, said.

Before each game, some of the ThunderWolves have some pretty strict superstitions.

“I have to have a large cookies and cream milkshake the night before the game every game,” Fox said.

“I don’t shave my whole end the whole season it started last year and ultimately it paid off,” Boyd said.

In the end, Coach Wristen said he will be proud of his players no matter what the outcome is on Saturday.

“If we come up short but we have given it are all, I want us to play as hard as we can for 60 minutes and that will validate who are,” Wristen said.
