Details emerge about officer involved shooting

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — We learned more about the officer involved shooting that sent Dana Bruce Ott to the hospital in critical condition.

Interviews by law enforcement show everything started in the afternoon on November 10 on Lanagan Street, which is on the west side of the Springs near Flying W Ranch Road.

The shooting is the outcome of a potential domestic violence situation. Court records show Dana Bruce Ott’s partner, Wendy Oatis, and her sister Bridget Oatis came to the home on Lanagan Street to get some of Bridget’s things.

It’s known that Ott and Bridget Oatis don’t get along.

While Wendy and Bridget moved boxes into a car, Ott was supposed to stay in the basement of the house, but instead he came out of the house holding a rifle with a scope telling them to get off of his property.

Both women went to a neighbor’s house and investigators said Ott pointed his gun at one of his neighbors returning home telling her, “Don’t get out of your car, you might get shot,” prompting all three of them to call police.

At around 5:30 p.m. officers arrived. They said he raised his gun at one of the officers. Fearing for their lives, and the safety of the community, one officer shot Ott with his shotgun. The other shot several times with his handgun.

They tended to him before he was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Ott’s partner Wendy said he was drinking bourbon before the shooting. He’s also on several medications for pain and depression.

After being medically cleared, Ott was arrested. He’s now free on a $50,000 bond.

He will return to court on December 7.
