COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Two local non-profits and two schools will benefit from an event Saturday night.

Saturday will mark the YOT Club’s 19th annual holiday benefit. YOT, or “toys” spelled backwards, is a club that works to support local children in need.

“Lots of entertainment, raffles, drawings, prizes,” said Chad White, YOT Club committee member.

It’s all to ensure children aren’t forgotten this holiday season.

“On average, about 1,500 to 2,000 kids are benefited each year through out events. So, over a course of now 19 years, that definitely adds up,” said Aidan Ryan, another YOT Club committee member. “There’s a huge direct need for children in Colorado Springs. And so, what we’re able to fulfill is kids who really have a holiday.”

Since the organization was founded in 1997, more than 25,000 books and toys have been collected for local children.

“It grew from just a small little group to now, I think we have over 26, 28 committee members all help in their own little part,” White said.

Through the benefit, toys and books are collected, along with monetary donations. This year, their goal is to surpass last year’s numbers with hopes of collecting more than a thousand new toys and 500 new books.

“We’re able to provide them toys as well as books to needy families and then scholarship funds, so no child is left behind,” Ryan said.

Each year new schools and non-profits are nominated for the benefit.

The benefit will run Saturday, Nov. 14 from 7 p.m. until midnight. Organizers ask you RSVP and bring two new toys, one new book and a donation of $10.
