Felony suspect arrested after harassing driver in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A parolee was arrested after harassing a driver on Fillmore Street Thursday morning.

Police said the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. near the Kum & Go in the area of Fillmore Street and El Paso Street. Police were called to the gas station to investigate a disturbance involving a gun. When they arrived, one of the two people involved was still at the gas station. Officers pulled the other person over in the area of Fillmore Street and Cascade Avenue.

Police learned that the suspect, 52-year-old Charles Slabaugh, had randomly approached a parked car in front of the gas station. Slabaugh banged on the window and tried to open the door as he yelled profanities at the driver, according to police.

The driver, who did not know Slabaugh, got out of his car. When Slabaugh tried to assault him, the driver displayed a handgun, according to police.

Officers determined Slabaugh was a parolee who was wanted on a felony Department of Corrections escape warrant. He was arrested for the warrant, along with charges of disorderly conduct and harassment.

Officers determined the driver legally possessed the handgun. He was not charged.
