Famous photographer takes on Colorado water issues

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A famous Colorado photographer was in Colorado Springs Thursday night.

John Fielder is using his pictures to start a conversation about the future of Colorado’s outdoors. Fielder is known for taking some of the most beautiful pictures of Colorado wild life.

In his new book it’s all about the future water ways of the state. He focused on the Yampa River on the western slope. The entire basin runs about 250 miles.

The Yampa is important to fielder as the state begins to develop it’s water plan for the future.

“We gotta protect our water for nature and the economy in Colorado too and the Yampa is the last free flowing river the entire Colorado River basin from color ado to California and a lot of us don’t want to see the water ever diverted or dammed,” said Fielder.

He said he hopes his photos show the true beauty of the Yampa, so that state officials won’t want to change it as they create water plans to support Colorado’s anticipated population growth in the future.
