PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A parked moving truck slid backwards down a hill and into a home Thursday afternoon in Southeast Portland, and a man was inside the back of the truck the whole time.

Police said this happened at SE Clatsop and Barbara Welch Road. The truck started rolling backwards with a man inside the back. Another man tried to jump inside to stop the truck but was unsuccessful.

“I was standing on the porch, waiting for the gentleman to get it out of the back of the truck,” neighbor Paul Coakley said. “All of a sudden the truck just takes off. It was quite a scene.”

The men suffered minor injuries and the house only suffered cosmetic damage. Police say the wheels of the truck were blocked so it is unclear what caused it to roll.

Power was knocked out in the process, leaving a dozen homes in the dark as PGE worked to make repairs.

“It could have been much, much worse,” Coakley said. “All things considered, we got pretty lucky here tonight.”

Repairs are underway at the home that was hit. The truck is still buried in the woods, and officials haven’t said when it may come out.
