Video shows machete-wielding man attacking cars before being run over

OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — A machete-wielding man was caught on video attacking cars and screaming at motorists before being run down by one of his victims.

Now, police are looking for the drivers of the cars that ran him down during his machete rampage.

According to police, the incident happened around 3 a.m. Monday at the intersection of International Boulevard and 37th Avenue in Oakland.

In the video, the 25-year-old man is seen standing in the middle of the street screaming at passing motorists and smashing their car windows with a machete.

“If you don’t shoot the f***ing ground, I’ll come over the and smash the f***ing windows of your car,” the attacker yells out at one of the motorists.

The man runs up to the car and swings the machete at the window before it speeds away.

The car, a red four-door passenger car, then backs into the man, knocking him to the ground. As the man tries to get up to his feet, another car, a white passenger vehicle, plows into the man, sending him flying several feet through the air.

Witnesses told officers that it appeared that one driver had intentionally hit the man. Both drivers failed to stop at the scene, police said.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and placed on a psychiatric detention, according to police.

Police are looking for the drivers of the two vehicles involved. Investigators have been following up on witness statements and are checking the area for video surveillance footage as well as reviewing videos posted on YouTube.
