COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A woman is facing multiple charges after she shot out the window of her own vehicle with her husband and toddler inside, according to police.

Police said the incident happened around 5:20 p.m. Sunday in the area of Interstate 25 and Lake Avenue. A woman called police and told them she was on the interstate when someone shot at her vehicle, hitting the back window. The woman, later identified as Cynthia Yancey, told police her husband was driving, and her child was also in the vehicle. She could not provide any suspect information.

Officers then spotted the vehicle in the area of East Pikes Peak Avenue and North Union Boulevard. They tried to pull it over, but the driver refused to stop. Officers finally caught up with the vehicle in the 300-block of Printers Parkway. Their investigation revealed that Yancey had actually fired several shots inside the vehicle. Officers could not find any evidence that someone else had shot at it.

Yancey was jailed on charges of possession of a weapon by a previous offender, child abuse, and reckless endangerment. Her husband, James Yancey, was cited and released for misdemeanor vehicular eluding and child abuse.
