Two inmates charged with trying to sneak heroin into jail

PUEBLO, Colo. — Two inmates at the Pueblo County Detention Facility are facing charges after trying to smuggle heroin into the jail.

The Narcotics and Criminal investigation units at the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office received tips from inside the jail that heroin was possibly going to be brought into the facility. Additionally, detectives from the Pueblo Police Narcotic unit had been investigating a case involving two unknown females who allegedly dropped a package near an area where inmates had access. The package was later identified as heroin.

The investigation revealed the package was intended to be picked up by inmates who were assigned to work outside the detention facility. Due to the quick response by both agencies, once the information was obtained the narcotics never entered the detention facility.

The two females, who are still under investigation, may also face criminal charges.  This case is still under investigation.  More information will be released as it becomes available.
