COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A residential area in southwestern Colorado Springs was blocked off for several hours Thursday morning due to police activity.

Colorado Springs police said they assisted U.S. Marshals in serving a warrant at a home in the 300-block of Cherokee Street. The process began around 6 a.m. Marshals arrested one of the suspects, but the other barricaded himself inside and refused to leave the home for several hours. Around 11 a.m., police released gas into the home. The suspect ran outside about 10 minutes later. A police K9 caught him, and he was arrested.

Streets in the area of Costilla Street and Cherokee Street were closed while police negotiated with the suspect.

Police said the suspect, 35-year-old John Cruze, threatened to harm the officer who came to take him into custody. Cruze was wanted for economic crimes in Florida.

The other suspect, 45-year-old Michael Perry, was wanted on more than 20 charges in Florida, including exploitation of the elderly.
