COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A driver involved in a four-vehicle crash on Powers Boulevard Thursday morning was under the influence of drugs, according to police.

Police said the crash happened around 7:10 a.m. at the intersection of Barnes Road and Powers Boulevard in northeastern Colorado Springs. A vehicle was headed southbound on Powers when it hit a pickup truck. The collision pushed the truck into a police cruiser that was stopped in the left turn lane of southbound Powers, waiting to turn onto Barnes. Police said a fourth vehicle was also hit in the collision.

Police said all of the vehicles sustained moderate to severe damage.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the truck was cited for numerous traffic violations, including driving under the influence of drugs. He was identified as David Grubbs, 42.

Three of the drivers and one passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment. Police said none of them were seriously injured.

Westbound Barnes Road and the southbound left turn lanes of Powers Boulevard were closed for about two hours while police investigated the crash.
