‘Romp in the Park’ event held in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.– For 17 years, the All Breed Rescue and Training group of Colorado Springs has been bringing canines and their companions together for a good cause.

It’s an event they call Romp in the Park at the Norris-Penrose Event Center, and it’s put together every year to raise awareness about International Homeless Animals Day.

“This event is to honor all of those homeless animals. Those who have been rescued, who are waiting to be rescued and also unfortunately those who didn’t have the opportunity to be rescued,” Executive Director of All Breed Rescue, Lauren Fox said.

Along with adoption centers for dogs still searching for their forever homes, there’s also competitions and crafts for the canines.

“It’s kind of like a carnival for dogs,” Fox said.

They had everything from puppy Picasso paintings, to an owner look-a-like contest, as well as active-learning sessions to bring you and your dog closer together.

“There is more that you can do with your dog than just walk him around the block. You can do doggy dancing, you can do agility, you can do obedience. There’s so much more that you can do to increase the bond that you have with your animal,” Volunteer Sherry Daniels said.

“Sometimes you don’t have enough time during your day. You go to work, you come home, feed the dog, okay we’re off to bed. This is a way to have a positive experience with them,” participant Karen Fowles said.

And while they build that bond, both were able to learn some new tricks and meet a few more furry friends.

All while raising awareness for a cause close to their hearts.
