Deputies arrest teen who escaped from youth corrections

DENVER — A teen who escaped from youth corrections August 4 was arrested days later in Denver.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said around 10:30 a.m. August 4, 18-year-old Alyxander Stephen Yawn was at Presbyterian/Saint Luke’s Hospital in Denver with a youth corrections officer. He was in an examination room with his restraints removed at the request of the doctor. He went to the restroom, and about a minute later, a corrections officer went to check on him and found that he was gone. Deputies said he had left through an adjoining door that was not secured.

Deputies said Yawn had originally been sentenced on misdemeanor charges. He was arrested on an escape warrant August 8.
