MESA COUNTY, Colo. — A man in Mesa County has been diagnosed with West Nile virus. This is the first human case of the virus in Colorado this year.

Mesa County is in the Grand Junction area of western Colorado.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has also confirmed mosquitoes in Denver and Larimer County are carrying the virus.

Last year, 118 people in Colorado contracted West Nile. Four of them died.

The department advises residents to take precautions against West Nile by using insect repellent and other methods to avoid mosquito bites.
