COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A man who was shot by a Colorado Springs police officer in May 2014 has pleaded guilty to attempted murder.

Chester Hubbard Dean pleaded guilty Wednesday.

The incident happened May 30, 2014 at a home in the 6700-block of Holt Drive. Police were called to the home due to concerns that Dean was suicidal. When officers arrived, Dean started firing shots at them, according to previous reports. One officer shot back, striking Dean in the hip. Two other officers then provided first aid and secured Dean’s weapon.

None of the officers were hurt in the incident. The Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office found that the officer was justified in shooting Dean.

Dean faces up to 22 years in prison. He will be sentenced October 23.
