Motorcyclist injured in collision with Colorado Springs police cruiser

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A motorcyclist was injured in a collision with a Colorado Springs police cruiser early Sunday morning, according to police.

Police said the crash happened around 1:40 a.m. on North Academy Boulevard in the area of East Platte Avenue. An officer was driving a fully-marked police cruiser southbound on Academy when a motorcycle also traveling southbound hit his car from behind.

The motorcyclist, 25-year-old John Turchan Jr., was taken to the hospital, where he is in critical condition. The officer was not injured.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. Turchan is charged with careless driving and other charges.
