FORT CARSON, Colo. — The U.S. Army turned 240 Sunday. A celebration at Fort Carson Monday highlighted the Army’s involvement throughout American history.

Maj. Gen Ryan Gonslaves, commanding general of Fort Carson, was joined by the youngest soldier on Fort Carson for a ceremonial birthday cake cutting.

The Army was founded June 14, 1775, when the Continental Congress authorized enlistment of riflemen to serve the colonies for one year.
