Two arrested on multiple charges at Colorado Springs Safeway

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Two people were arrested on multiple charges after an incident at a Safeway Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Police said around 12:30 p.m., they were called to the Safeway on West Colorado Avenue to investigate a possible theft in progress. When they arrived, officers contacted two men and a woman near the store. Police identified the men as Jose Gonzalez and Brandon Shenefelt.

Officers investigated and learned that Shenefelt was a suspect in a purse theft at the same Safeway Tuesday. Officers also found that Shenefelt was in possession of psilocybin mushrooms and crystal meth.

The officers’ investigation also revealed Gonzalez was in possession of suspected heroin, crystal meth, and a stolen handgun. Police said he is also a suspect in four mail thefts in the area.

The officers got written consent to search the suspect’s vehicle and found another 43 grams of suspected crystal meth.
