PENROSE, Colo. — A suspicious package at a rocket manufacturer has evacuated most of the town of Penrose.

Fremont County Sheriff’s officials say the call came in around 11:15 Monday morning from Estes Rockets near Highway 50 and H Street, about a mile east of the Hwy 115 interchange. Fremont County deputies, Penrose Fire Department, medical staff and the bomb squad are on scene.

Deputies said an alert was sent out to evacuate within a three mile radius. Evacuees from Penrose can go to Fremont Elementary School in Florence.

According to the sheriff’s office, roads surrounding Estes are closed. Highway 50 is closed in both directions from Highway 115 to R Street. Local traffic is routed through K Street, while semis are being sent down Highway 120.
