Fire breaks out at Pueblo scrap yard

PUEBLO, Colo– A pile of scrap caught fire Sunday at American Iron & Metal on the 1800 block of South La Crosse.
The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. as Pueblo fire crews fought to get the flames under control.
By 4:30 the fire was still going, but it wasn’t spreading.
The thick smoke from the scrap prompted the Pueblo City-County Health Department to issue a health advisory for Salt Creek neighborhood and Blende.  They recommended people close all windows and doors, as well as shut down air conditioning systems.
This is the second time in less than two months a pile of scrap has caught fire at American Iron & Metal.
The cause of the fire will be investigated by fire officials and the sheriff’s office.
