MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. — Thousands came out to celebrate the 13th annual Manitou Springs Wine Festival which highlights wines made right here in Colorado. There was live music, food trucks, vendors and of course lots of wine to taste. Twenty-two different wineries handed out samples of their Colorado crafted vino. But what is so great about Colorado wines?

“Well they’re local and we like to support small business and they really have come into their own.” Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Leslie Lewis added, “You know, when they first started years ago it was the California wines but there are a lot of award winning Colorado wines now.”

Local wine drinker, Alex Poord agrees, “I’ve had some wines from all over. Actually recently a buddy of mine and I were out in San Diego and we had a port, it was so good it was a coffee port and he has been to Porto, Portugal and he said the best port he’s ever had was here in Manitou.”

And the Wine Festival brings people from all over.

“We do have people from a lot of different states here today.” Lewis added, “Some of them were probably going on vacation anyway and so they happened to look at the calendar and figure out this was going on and made sure they got a reservation to come now.”

Which means it is a big bonus for the city.

“Well Manitou, it depends on those sales tax revenues so a good day in Manitou is a good day for everybody,” said Lewis.
